Chronology of cameras Balda
The Baldax series consists of compact folding cameras. They come in 4.5 x 6 or 6 x 6 formats using 120 film. The new design of their struts makes it easier to open the flap.
The series offers numerous combinations of lenses and shutters and was prolific during the 1930s. The war brought an end to its production, but with the revival of the brand in West Germany, models once again bore this name.
During production, several modifications were made. There are two sizes for the body, with the possibility of a slightly larger version (model 0) to accommodate larger diameter shutters. The edges of the body on some models have a recess, while on others, the edge is straight. The viewfinder changed shape and position on the body multiple times.
Post-war Baldax cameras are easily identified by their new, less angular hood, which incorporates the viewfinder, rangefinder, and an accessory shoe. It appears that only the 6 x 6 format survived for this series after the war.
The Super Baldax features a coupled rangefinder. Our specimen has likely been patched up because normally, the name "Super Baldax" is embossed in the covering above the bellows.
